It’s all about the people
I've always followed a simple piece of advice my school career advisor gave me - "do what you enjoy and what you think you can be good at". That took me from studying Social Sciences with a degree in Human Geography, to working in FMCG for some of the best Blue Chip companies. And whilst my career path hasn't been particularly linear, the one thing that connects all my previous roles is people. From building relationships with customers as a Sales Rep, to understanding shopper behaviour as a Category Manager, to growing brands through consumer insight in a Marketing capacity and now to recruiting, training & managing talented graduates. It’s that thread that I enjoy most - working with people and understanding their motivations.

I joined Chivas Brothers in 2014 to manage the newly created International Graduate Programme. At that time - as a business - we had recruited a crop of 18 brilliant graduates, trained them to become Brand Ambassadors and had sent them out to their international placements. My role has been, not only to manage & continually develop the team but to formulate a long term strategy, build a strong brand, create the tools & processes that underpin the programme and grow our talent pool. And I'm pleased to say that now, in our fourth year we will have over 50 graduates across the world telling the story of our brands.

Motivations

Variety is the spice of life
My role is very varied and like the job of a Brand Ambassador, no two days are the same. I love the fact that one minute I can be interviewing candidates, the next I can be presenting to the CEO or briefing a marketing agency or having a development conversation with a graduate. I enjoy the boundless scope of the role and the freedom & autonomy I have to shape the programme.

My success is their success
The most rewarding aspect of my job is seeing a graduate go from a student straight out of university, to a credible professional. I’m lucky now to have graduates who started the programme in 2014 that are moving into permanent roles with Pernod Ricard and it makes me very proud to see them progress through the organisation.
